History Of The Tippecanoe County Public Library

The History of the Tippecanoe County Public Library starts way back in 1882, with the creation of the Lafayette Public Library started by James J. Perrin. The collection of books were housed at the corner of North sixth and Columbia Streets in the “Old White House.” The “Old White House” was a building that shared space with the Public Schools Offices.

Over the years the library grew its collection and was moved around to several buildings until 1989 where it has reached its present location. For more information about the history of the Tippecanoe County Public Library, visit the Library’s website.

Klondike Library

Opened in 2007, this was the Tippecanoe County Public Library’s first neighborhood branch. Here you can enjoy a fireplace, drive up book return and creative children’s area.

Wyandotte Library

Opened in 2016 just East of the Wyandotte Elementary School. Emulating the Klondike Branch, the Wyandotte Library offers a similar atmosphere, meeting space and popular materials.

Campus Library

3101 S. Creasy Lane – Ivy Tech

Opened in 2002 on the Ivy Tech Campus constructed by Ivy Tech State College and Tippecanoe County Public Library. This partnership ended in 2016 with different focuses for each party.

Mobile Library

South Branch

Coming Soon! South 18th Street and 430 South

This branch will be modeled after the Klondike and Wyandotte branches. The final name is still in the works. You can expect the same technology and high speed internet, as well as attractive meeting places, and story time areas.

Library Events

The Tippecanoe County Public Library hosts a wide range of events and programs for people of all ages in the community. Many events are free, and some require advanced reservations. Keep on top of the schedule for fun things to do or groups to join.

Return every summer to partake in the Summer Reading Club. For kids and adults of all ages. Sign up at a local branch, read and record your progress from May 20th to July 31st. Reach your goals and earn prizes.
